Finding your PIN in a mailstack

When your AdSense account reaches US $50, keep your eyes peeled for a PIN in the post.

Before we can send you a payment, we'll send you a PIN. Your PIN is short for your Personal Identification Number, and it's your key to verifying your AdSense account so that you can receive payments. Once you've entered your PIN in your account and your account balance reaches US $100, you'll be all clear for payment, provided you've removed all other holds from your account.

If you've reached US $50 in earnings, you can check when your PIN was generated by visiting your Payment History page and clicking the Please enter your PIN link. PINs are typically mailed 3-5 days after they're generated. They're sent by standard mail and usually take between 2-4 weeks to arrive.

Make sure you know what to watch for in the mail by taking a moment to study the example PIN mailer below. PINs are printed in postcard-sized envelopes with a Google logo.

If we've already sent you a PIN, your payments will be on hold until you enter it into your account. You can request up to two replacement PINs if you don't receive the first one, and all additional PINs will be duplicates of the original. However, you'll need to enter your PIN within 6 months - after this time period, your account will be disabled.

Have PIN questions? Look no further than the AdSense Help Center. Finding your answer should be easier than finding a needle in a haystack.

A non-taxing tax wizard

As you might know from our Payments Guide, one of the steps to getting paid is submitting your tax information. We've recently updated the Tax Information page located under your My Account tab with a new format that we hope will make it easier to determine which form is right for you. Also, you'll now be able to see when your information was last saved so that you can make sure all updates have been recorded in our system.

Every publisher's tax situation is different, but we aren't able to provide any tax advice. To help determine what's right for you, we recommend walking through the tax wizard in your account or visiting our Help Center for additional help. If you're not able to find the information you're looking for, we encourage you to speak directly with your local tax advisor.

A new Payment History page

If you've glanced at your Payment History page today, you might've noticed that it's been revamped with a whole new look. Don't worry -- all of your previous payment data is still available and our payment process hasn't changed. We've simply updated the layout to make it easier to keep track of the financial activity in your account, and most importantly, help you determine when you can expect your next payment.

You'll now find your earnings and payments divided into two separate columns so you can better distinguish between them. Clicking on any details link will give you more information about the noted Earnings or Payment event. For example, the details link associated with a payment will show you the payment number, amount, date, and depending on your form of payment, the tracking number.

We've also added a Monthly balance column, which displays the running total of your unpaid earnings and credits at the end of each month. If this column shows an amount greater than $100 and you've removed all holds from your account, you'll be issued a payment at the end of the following month. You can see an example in the screenshot above -- since the publisher's unpaid earnings totaled $58.23 at the end of November, a payment will not be issued during December.

Have questions about our payment process and schedule? The Payments Guide is the place to find answers.

Are the ides of April on your mind?

2007 is officially here, and now that you've finished sweeping up the confetti and setting New Year's resolutions, you may be thinking about how you're going to report your 2006 taxes. April 15th is just around the corner, so we'd like to give you some information on AdSense tax reporting.

As required by U.S. tax law, we'll send IRS forms 1099 and 1042-S to qualifying publishers. To determine whether you are a qualifying publisher and if you should expect to receive one of these forms, please review the criteria in our Help Center . These tax forms were mailed on January 31st, so any forms sent to you should arrive during February.

As a reminder, checks dated in 2006 will be reported in 2006. This means that unpaid earnings from 2006 that are rolled over to 2007 will not be included. For example, December earnings which are paid in January 2007 will not be included as earnings for 2006.

As always, if you have any questions about your specific tax situation, it's best to speak with a tax advisor. You can also find more information about U.S. tax requirements by visiting the IRS website.

Pencil us in

Have you subscribed to the AdSense Calendar yet? If not, you may find that it's a great way to keep track of things like Inside AdSense blogposts, upcoming site maintenance periods, and publisher events. We've also listed important payment dates each month, so you can remember to update your account before the 15th and quickly determine when to expect your next payment.

The easiest way to subscribe is to add the AdSense Calendar to your own Google Calendar -- you'll then be able to see AdSense events alongside your personal events with a click of your mouse. Alternatively, you can subscribe via a feed reader or an iCal-compatible program. For more information on subscribing to the AdSense Calendar, please visit our Help Center.

Finally, we're happy to announce that the AdSense Calendar is also available in Dutch, German, Italian, and Spanish. So whether you're checking our Calendar, Agenda, Kalender, or Calendario, we hope you'll find these resources helpful in managing important AdSense dates.

One account, one PIN

As you may know, one of the steps to receiving your first payment is to verify a Personal Identification Number (PIN). We'll send this PIN via standard postal mail once your earnings have reached $50, and then you'll need to enter it into the PIN Information Page of your account.

Many concerned publishers ask whether they'll need to complete the PIN process more than once -- such as before receiving every check, or every time they generate $50 in earnings. Fortunately, the answer is no. You'll only need to enter in a PIN once per account, and we'll send it to you the first time you reach $50 in earnings.

If you've reached $50 in earnings and haven't yet entered in your PIN, you'll see a box at the top of your Payment History page labeled 'Required Action'. Click on the 'Please enter your PIN' link to review detailed information about the date your most recent PIN was generated, and when you can request a replacement should you need one. Once you've verified your PIN, you should no longer see this language on your Payment History page.

If you have more questions about our PIN process, you may wish to review our PIN guide or visit our Help Center.

A number of publishers have asked us about phone verification and indicated that they're having difficulty with the process. After investigating these reports, we've discovered that our system is currently experiencing intermittent outages. We're working hard to fix the issue as soon as we can and appreciate your patience in the interim.

Not sure if you need to verify your phone number? Find out by visiting your Payment History page - if you've reached $50 in earnings and see the 'Please verify your phone number' prompt shown in the image below, keep reading. If you don't see this message on your Payment History page, you don't need to verify your phone number.

If you're required to verify your phone number, you can initiate the process by clicking the 'Please verify your phone number' link and following the instructions. We'd also like to offer you a few tips for completing the phone verification process, based on publisher feedback. First, our automated phone system isn't compatible with rotary phones or certain types of VoIP technology, so you may wish to double check the phone line you're using. In addition, if your phone has a Tone/Pulse option, please make sure it's set to 'Tone'. Finally, you may wish to try a different phone number if you're having difficulty - for instance, try switching from your cell phone to a land line.

If you're still unable to verify your phone number after multiple attempts, feel free to contact one of our specialists through our Help Center or the prompt in your account. We'll be happy to assist you further with your phone verification issue.
